Clearing Additional Credential Renewal Requirements
IF any of the these renewal requirements are posted on a preliminary credential, the recommendation for a clear credential may be delayed pending evidence of completion. This may be sent electronically to the Newark Teacher Induction Office or directly to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

|Preliminary Program Equivalence
(L1 Ed Specialist)
|RSG: “The holder must complete the equivalent of a Commission-approved preliminary program in the specialty area listed on this document.” (Coded Corespondence 20-03).
Educators can meet this requirement by verifiying one of the following:-
1. Two or more years of out-of-state teaching experience completed in the specialty area listed on the Level I credential.
*For verification of experience, the Commission will require an original letter on an official letterhead out-of-state public or regionally-accredited private school where the teacher taught full-time for two or more years. The letter must state the teacher taught in a classroom with only students of the specialty area. The experience must have have been completed in another state prior to receiving the California Level I credential.
2. Out-of-state student teaching completed in the specialty area listed on the Level 1 credential.
*For verification, the Commission will require an original letter on official letterhead from the university where the teacher completed a teacher preparation program that verified that is was completed in a classroom with only students of the specialty are indicated in the Level I credential.
3. Completion of preliminary program equivalency, as verified by an institution with a Commission-approved program in the specialty area listed on the Level I credential.
4. Two or more years of special education teaching experience earned in California, completed in the specialty area listed on the Level I document.
